Position Summary: 

Responsible for supporting the workers' compensation related financial functions of the Company with insightful and actionable analysis that supports business growth. Maintains Risk related metrics and data requirements as dictated by the Company's vendors, and provides analytical support to the Risk Management department.  Serves as a direct liaison between the Risk Management and Finance functions of the organization.  As such, while this is a Risk Management function, a matrixed, "dotted-line" relationship also exists with the VP of Finance.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ability to independently research, compile and present relevant trends and analysis with large data sets in support of the Risk Management  department
  • Ability to gather data, draw conclusions, and present ideas to all levels of the organization, including the VP of Risk Management, VP of Finance, SVP Risk Management, and Chief Financial Officer
  • Creates and maintains reporting tools and metrics that accurately and consistently measure performance and productivity related to the workers' compensation program
  • Assists in the development of reports needed to meet vendor reporting requirements
  • Compiles monthly payroll reports for insurance carrier, consolidating and organizing data from multiple payroll systems into a single, usable format
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual data reports as required for the carrier, actuary and other vendors
  • Serves as daily contact and partner with the Company's independent actuary, resolving data discrepancies, business questions, and reviewing initial analysis on a quarterly basis
  • Performs ad hoc financial modeling and analysis related to the workers' compensation product as requested
  • Tracks all workers' compensation program financial related components pertaining to premiums, fees, assessments and adjustments
  • Works with carrier auditor for annual and ongoing functions related to the workers' compensation program and the final audit for each program year
  • Responsible for managing all workers' compensation historical program adjustments and related tracking
  • Prepares documents and analysis critical to the Company's year-end financial close and its independent Financial audit process
  • Tracks vendor payments for the Risk Management department
  • Provides analytical support to the Risk Management department
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Advanced analytical problem solving skills required
  • Strong knowledge of finance and accounting helpful, especially related to the Accounting treatment of workers' compensation expenses and reserves
  • Power user Excel required
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work autonomously in a fast paced dynamic work environment
  • Experience in insurance industry, specifically with workers' compensation helpful
  • Strong Verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have the ability to learn new concepts quickly
  • Collaboration/Teamwork – must possess willingness and desire to build relationships within a team and across departments where subject matter expertise resides for the products and services we provide

Educational and Professional Licensing or Certification Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent or equivalent combination of education and experience
